“Skin Between” è un processo che nasce dalla volontà di Timothy Crafti, in arte Tsuki, e della Tsuki Dance Company. Il suo progetto, che muove i primi passi nel 2020, in seguito all’isolamento collettivo per il lockdown da Covid-19, esplora l’ascolto più profondo e l’espressione dei nostri corpi individuali in un contesto performativo.
Protagonista è la pelle, che si pone come mediatrice tra l’organismo e il mondo esterno: attraverso il suo respiro assorbe ed espelle energia, emozioni, informazioni dall’ambiente e dagli elementi che ne fanno parte. Grazie alle terminazioni nervose e al tatto comprendiamo i confini tra il nostro mondo interiore ed esteriore, rileviamo variazioni termiche, proviamo sensazioni e vibrazioni positive, fino a spingerci verso emozioni più intense come l’amore o il desiderio carnale. Ma attraverso la pelle espelliamo impurità o assorbiamo batteri e virus.
In uno spaccato di vita come quello dell’ultimo anno, in cui la pandemia ci ha regalato un’unica certezza, ovvero la fragilità del momento, ci sentiamo tutti equamente distanti, come fossimo in uno scenario hitchcockiano, sospeso e al contempo inquietante e turbolento.
Nella performance i movimenti prendono vita nei ricordi sensuali, nei gemiti e nei brividi che scorrono lungo i corpi che danzano, mentre svelano strati di gioia e dolore, nell’inesauribile ricchezza di un’eredità epidermica che contraddistingue l’individuo e al tempo stesso lo rende un tutt’uno con l’altro. Osmosi, influenza reciproca, contaminazioni percettibili e reversibili fanno di Skin Between un’azione che esprime profonda fiducia reciproca attraverso i corpi che la compiono.
Tsuki è una ballerina e performer transgender australiana, diplomata all’Australian Ballet School di Melbourne, nel 2008. Ha al suo attivo diverse collaborazioni con compagnie e progetti che si sviluppano tra Israele, Melbourne e Berlino. Si è esibita in alcuni dei più celebri club della capitale tedesca, tra cui Tresor, KitKat e Suicide Circus. Ha fondato la Tsuki Dance Company, compagnia interdisciplinare che ha sede a Berlino, città in cui vive e insegna danza, supportando il diritto alla libertà di espressione e TRANSformazione.
A “Skin Between” hanno collaborato diverse amiche/i di Tsuki: la socia Leisa Prowd (anche lei performer di origine australiana), Tamae Yoneda, Po-Nien Wang e Raffaello Donnaloia Me’taraph. Insieme lo hanno presentato nel 2020 al Backsteinboot Artist Collective di Spandau, poi al Trauma Bar und Kino, al Tanzfabrik, e al FreshEra presso l’Else Club.
L’intenzione è di riproporre il progetto da quest’anno come rituale di performance mensile in coincidenza con ogni luna piena. A tal proposito la compagnia di danza interdisciplinare di Tsuki e Leisa, la Tsuki Dance Company, sta cercando festival, finanziamenti e opportunità di residenza, per ampliare la loro pratica e condividerla. Attraverso l’esibizione live si vogliono creare rituali di danza collettivi che possano spostare l’energia tra i corpi e superare i confini della paura contemporanea che ha determinato uno stravolgimento delle nostre vite e che sembra non avere fine.

SKIN BETWEEN: PERCEPTIBLE AND REVERSIBLE CONTAMINATIONS

“Skin Between” is a process that came from the will of Timothy Crafti, aka Tsuki, and the Tsuki Dance Company. Her project, which takes the first steps in 2020 following the isolation due to the lockdown from Covid-19, explores the deeper listening and expression of our individual bodies in a performative context.
The protagonist is the skin, which acts as a mediator between the body and the outside world: through its breath it absorbs and expels energy, emotions, information from the environment and the elements that are part of it. Thanks to nerve endings and touch, we understand the boundaries between our inner and outer world, detect thermal variations, experience positive sensations and vibrations, to the point of pushing us towards more intense emotions such as love or carnal desire. But through the skin we excrete impurities or absorb bacteria and viruses.
In a snapshot of life like last year, in which the pandemic gave us a one and only certainty, the fragility of the moment: we all feel equally distant, as if we were in a Hitchcockian scenario, suspended and at the same time creepy and turbulent .
During the performance, movements come to life in sensual memories, in groans and shivers that flow along the dancing bodies, while revealing layers of joy and pain, in the inexhaustible richness of an epidermal inheritance that distinguishes the individual and at the same time makes one with the other. Osmosis, mutual influence, perceptible and reversible contaminations make of Skin Between an action that expresses deep mutual trust through the bodies fulfilling it.
Tsuki is an Australian transgender dancer and performer, graduated in 2008 at the Australian Ballet School in Melbourne. She has several collaborations with companies and projects that develop between Israel, Melbourne and Berlin. She performed in some of the most famous clubs in the German capital, including Tresor, KitKat and Suicide Circus. She founded the Tsuki Dance Company, an interdisciplinary company based in Berlin, the city where sh’s living and teaching dance, supporting freedom of expression and TRANSformation.
Several Tsuki friends collaborated on “Skin Between”: Leisa Prowd (australian performer and Tsuki Dance company partner), Tamae Yoneda, Po-Nien Wang and Raffaello Donnaloia Aka Me’taraph. Together they presented it in 2020 at Backsteinboot Artist Collective in Spandau, then at Trauma Bar und Kino, at Tanzfabrik, and at FreshEra in the Else Club.
The intention is to re-propose the project this year as a monthly ritual coinciding with each full moon. In this regard Tsuki and Leisa, the owners of Tsuki Dance Company, are looking for festivals, funding and residency opportunities, to expand their practice and share it. Through live performance, they want to create collective dance rituals that can move energy between bodies and overcome the boundaries of contemporary fear that has led to a twist in our lives and that seems to have no end.
